This is the sequel to My Fair Temptress. Imprisonment, torture, and revenge start off this book. Michael rides the roads as "The Reaper" during house arrest. He makes Prince Sandre and his cousin, Jean-Pierre, crazy trying to rid themselves of this "Reaper" that is supposed to be a ghost. The Reaper comes across Emma, injured and lost after her mistress threw her out. He saves her and delivers her to the safety of Lady Fanchese. She gets into a situation where she protects the Reaper by hiding him in her bed.
