A look at the ladies behind the men in the original space
missions - in the beginning as a sort of tongue in cheek idea it was
suggested to form a kind of support group and so there was. Featured on
magazines, radio, TV, and the like, they were
subjected to a storm of publicity that ruined most of their marriages
(out of the moon landing for example only the Collinses stayed together)
and tested their relationships with their own blood families and
children. Better than the TV show they made later
- which I thought played up the stereotypes and melodrama a bit too
much, and a good look behind the space program. Also liked how Annie
Glenn's first sentence after being corrected of her long term stutter
was to yell at her husband to pick up his socks. Atta
girl. But to the person who left the large note on stationery with the
hearts and flowers inside reading "take time out to launch your husbands
rocket and get ready to be lost in space" - well, whomever you are, you
scare me.
