A wonderfully illustrated account of Skull Island's giant gorilla from his conception to the Peter Jackson film. Chapters are given on the original King Kong, Son of Kong, the 76 version and its sequel, King Kong vs Godzilla and its spinoffs, aborted properties, merchandising, and ending with a brief account of the casting and production of the WETA version. The largest chapter is on the 76 remake, and it is a bit too laudatory in its praise. For a film that is mostly derided by the movie community today he is quite keen on emphasizing its good points, and those of Jackson's (despite the latter not even having been released as of that time). That did irritate me a bit, but the photos provided, and the respect the author gave the subject, made things better.
