Two things I love - the strength of the character of Merry, and the Scottish accent. "Are ye daft (crazy)?" "Take wee bairn (baby)." "Come home ere (before) dinner."
Merry is home, taking care of the keep, including training the soldiers, because her father and two brothers are drunks. She tries to control them the best she can, thus getting the name "Stewart Shrew." She waits for her husband-to-be to come back from the Crusades. When he does, Merry's father and brothers take her to his keep, where she finds him drunk from whiskey, because he was getting a tooth pulled. The mystery starts when they discover that someone has been drugging him and attempting to kill him. There is a surprise ending.
