This book was like having a private PBS Masterpiece Theater Series bouncing around in my head.
The story is set in early 1950's London and populated with a memorable cast of characters, both adults and children. Poverty pulls at your heartstrings but the underdogs are more than able to take care of themselves.
A great read! And a total surprise.
