I don't usually read
dystopian novels, but Heller is so good at describing the Colorado
terrain (he is basically an outdoors and fishing writer) that nature is
one of the primary characters. After a flu epidemic has
decimated the US and a drought is drying up the streams and killing the
forests, some survivors remain, always on the lookout for desperate
marauders. Basically a love story. His land, his dead wife, his dog, his plane.
