Science of the Magical

Author: Matt Kaplan
Stars: 4
Review by: Mandy Apgar

Not sure if this was a 3 or a 4. Putting it a 4 so it gets on the list and has a better chance of more reading it. But it is concerned with the actual sciences behind things like, as the subtitle says, the Holy Grail (although they discuss Arthur and Merlin a lot more), love potions (spoiler alert - they stink, and they don't work) and superpowers (the author seemed kind of amused at the fascination with comic book characters, which I did not like, but he did bring about a group of people who are working on creating a healing factor like Wolverine's). And a few others - the Delphic oracle, why Vikings went totally nuts sometimes and saw visions in their mead, super soldier programs. A lot of different things in a medium sized book.
