Stars: 5
Review by: Mary NK
This book is
NOT about war. What it IS about, is the way humans protect themselves
from war. We learn, for example, why silk underwear is the best material
if you're wounded; and why the Navy doesn't
have camouflage. Open this book to any page and you will be regaled with
facts essential not to the war machine, but to the drivers of that
machine. How a chicken gun protects lives on airplane runways, for
example. You can't go wrong with any book by Mary
Roach, and Grunt will give you a whole new respect for the researchers
and testers of military equipment.
