Absolutely
engrossing! It's amazing how much we don't know about famous people.
Michael Sheldon has uncovered new information about Melville and his
secret life- his love affair with a very unconventional
married woman. The book also delves into his published works and how
ill-received Moby-Dick was when it was first published in 1851. Melville
died in 1891, virtually all but forgotten as an author. It wasn't until
decades later the novel was recognized as being
one of the "greatest."
