Lighthouses of New England

Author: John Marcus
Stars: 4
Review by: Mandy Apgar

A thin volume without much description at times (not due to a fault of the author, but to having such variety in content that it didn't have the time to dwell much on one topic). Big on content and overall impact. Lovely photography, general history of lighthouses, their purpose, why they were needed to shipping, how they impacted culture and design even, etc. lots of various things are included. It was very big on the sacrifices the keepers made and several instances where they really crossed the line to keep things going - the first several keepers in this area died in the line of duty and once during a storm the wife of one was washed 2 miles out on an ice floe where she gave birth and was rescued by the Coast Guard.
