For 30 plus
years, Mazie Phillips Gordon sold tickets from a small booth for the
Venice Theater, a movie theater off the Bowery. A street-smart woman,
loyal to her family, she watched the world walk
past and when times got tough in the 20s and 30s, she helped those most
in need. This wonderfully written book is a fictionalized account -
part diary and part interview - makes you wish you could have met her.
The best book I read this summer.
