The Forgotten Soldier

Author: Guy Sajer
Stars: 5
Review by: Doug Logg

A soldier's story about a forgotten part of the war, the eastern front. The author is from Alsace, his mother is German and his father French. After the Germans invade France the author is conscripted into the German army at the age of sixteen. This is his story about three tours of duty to the eastern front. His first deployment is with the convoys providing supplies to front line troops. His second deployment is as an infantry man on the front line. His last deployment is mostly a retreat and escape from the Russian's. Making it to the west to surrender to the British. Good read, it puts you in the author's place in the brutal winters on the eastern front.
