I read a lot of books about Ireland, (and listen to them on tape because I enjoy the Irish accent) and partly because my mother was Irish. My father was German and though he was born in America and never visited Germany this book made me think about him and how I really don't know that much about his ancestors and how they came to live here. I don't travel, but fortunately, my love of reading lets me think, or dream about places I would like, or sometimes not like to visit. Living in Europe during the war must have been a very sad time. Books like this make me grateful for all the blessings in our country, enjoying freedom and living in a prosperous country, not going to bed hungry or in fear. I owned this book since December and I was saving it to read when I could devote my time to savoring it because of all the good reviews. I enjoyed the book and the writing, but sometimes a book comes with an expectation that it should be great. This was good, but not the best of the year as some have said. But do read it, it matters.
