A Prisoner in the Garden: Photos, Letters and Notes from Nelson Mandela's 27 Years in Prison

Author: The Nelson Mandela Foundation

Review by: MandyApgar

A smallish, nearly kids book size, collection of photos / artifacts of Mandela's life as it related to Robben Island and its environs. Personal photos, letters, and records mostly of himself, but also his family and supporters. Accompanied by biographical text, it tells in a fairly straightforward way what Apartheid was (which is not easy all the time) and why Mandela had been put in jail. Only real downer was that the letters and notes were not always readable as reproduced and so to have an entire page(s) taken up in such a way made it a bit harder to get through the book.
