The Future of Us

Author: Jay Asher & Carolyn Mackler
Stars: 3
Review by: Shapoppa

A worker from Barnes & Noble in Syracuse, NY recommended this book to my 6th grade daughter. I wanted to read it before my daughter did because it seems lately, that I don't necessarily agree with what some people think are appropriate books for her age level. I'm glad I read it because it isn't a book I'd want her to read right now. Although the premise was interesting - two high school neighbors log on to America Online for the first time from a CD-Rom one received in the mail and find that they've entered a portal into their future through Facebook, which hasn't been invented yet in their lifetime. Although the premise seems interesting, I found it to be one of those books where the teens are wise beyond their years with a predictable ending. However, for a teen, the ending will most likely be satisfying. It contains some sexual innuendo that I found to be inappropriate for my 6th grader which is why she can hold off on this book for a while.
