This was a complete (auto)biography for me. Martin Short goes into great detail about his life, from the early years when he lost special family members, and how he started in show business and rose to fame. He tells the reader how he created his characters, about his successes and failures, and the friendships he has made along the way. Throughout the entire book you learn of the special love affair he had with his wife and how much she meant to him on his journey. There is a special chapter, The Nine Categories, found on page 124, in which he breaks down his life's objectives as if they were college courses he had to complete and maintain in order to achieve success. He uses them to track his relationships, finances, career, etc. It's quite interesting. I don't agree with his politics, he dispersed his opinions throughout the book, but it wasn't enough to compel me to stop reading. He has his opinions and I have mine. Despite his personal losses, he lives the life of a celebrity that one can only imagine a celebrity would live. His hard work has given him some good fortune in life.
