This story takes place in Europe before, during, and after World
War II. The main characters are a young German boy and a young French
girl whose lives intersect in surprising ways during the course of the
narrative. Anthony Doerr is a wonderful writer who manages to weave a
story that is engaging and expressively written. Certain passages were
so beautiful it made me shiver! If you are a fan of literary historical
fiction you will not be disappointed with this book. The audio version
is outstanding!
