The 2-culture combo was so interesting.  An American girl (dirt poor) inherits money from her father, who left her mother to look for silver mines.  The girl is not accepted in America's "old-money society."  So she hooks Earl, who needs her money.  Her uncle thinks it will be a big mistake, so her hires Duke for half a million dollars to convince her that her life will be miserable with that Earl.  Duke drinks moonshine with her the night before her wedding and kisses her in the Turkish Bath on the ship.  The next day, he objects at the wedding and she punches him in the face, and the Earl won't marry her because she hit his peer.

They go through some turmoil, but he will never change her American ways.  They love each other.  Happy ending, enjoyable.
