The Earl of Kerrich hires a governess to choose a child for him to adopt from the orphanage. He will only hire an ugly governess - one who won't be so taken with his good looks that she will fall in love with him. Pamela gets hired after she disguises herself to be ugly. She goes to the orphanage and is impressed with 8 year old Beth, who is the best part of this book. Follow this story of disguise, seduction, embezzlement, and revenge.
