I found this long book of historical fiction difficult and cumbersome to read.
There were so many characters, many with the name of Thomas, and the author
often used the pronoun "he" without reminding the reader who "he" was. The book
has received wonderful reviews and awards, and I found some of it enjoyable when
I could follow the story
