I'm kind of conflicted on this book. I really liked the premise and a lot of the
underlying plot points - vampires, daemons, witches, DNA research, haunted
houses - it was a lot of fun. But the whole romance thing really turned me off
and I felt that it detracted from the story. Not the actual romance between the
vampire and the witch, which is not typical of a fantasy book, but the trite
mushiness of it. I've never read a Harlequin Romance but this was sort of what I
envision it would be like, and it was annoying. But that said, I've already
ordered the second book as I am looking forward to finding out what happens next
on their journey.
