Author: Jacqueline Winspear
Stars: 3
Review by: Jelsey
Destination: Kent and London, England
This is the first Maisie Dobbs mystery novel I've read, and it won't be the last! The setting is London 1931 between the two world wars. Winspear gets the mood and period right. The mystery involves the death (accident or murder?) of artist Nicholas Bassington-Hope. His twin sister, Georgina, suspects foul play and asks Maisie to investigate. The action takes place in London, where Nick had been preparing to show his latest work at a Mayfair gallery, and in Kent, the shore area where Nick and his artist friends live. The mystery unfolds in surprising ways, and my guess is that you'll find yourself looking for more mysteries starring Maisie Dobbs.
