Cutting for Stone

Author: Abraham Verghese
Stars: 5
Review by: Jelsey
Destination: Ethiopia

Twin boys are born and raised in an Ethiopian medical center and eventually pursue medical careers.  Along the way, we see medicine as practiced in a third-world country, a political coup that overthrows the government, a culture that blends aspects of previous colonists, visiting religious groups, and modern influences with the native East Africans.  It is also a love story.  This is a big book, but a real page turner!
