Richard Russo is one of my favorite authors. And he tells an excellent story in this book. However, I don't think it comes up to his standard, set by recent books Empire Falls, and Bridge of Sighs. It's a little too static, and even predictable. I just didn't get really interested in the characters. Unusual for a Russo story. But there are wonderful vignettes along the way.
