Written during the 1940s by Charles Dickens' grand-daughter, this book tells the story of Mary Shannon growing up in England between the wars. A sweet story about her life and loves, but Mary never really seemed to grow as a person. She fell in love with several "wrong" men and eventually found the right one, but that's about it. She tried some things she didn't like, but she never really got around to telling us why she didn't, and the only thing she ever found that she liked was a man - but again, no reason why he was the one instead of any of the others. It was a good book, but could have been so much better.
