When Susan Richards rescued a neglected, abused mare and her foal, she could not anticipate how this act of kindness would enable her to come to terms with her own history of neglect and abuse. This is a touching, honest account for anyone intrigued by the bond between humans and their animal companions. Caveat: keep tissues nearby.
