The author, a Franciscan Priest who writes for the St. Anthony Messenger attempts to answer this question. Using scripture from the Bible, he points out that animals and humans make up all of creation; each species is a viable part. I really enjoyed reading the perspectives using the story of Noah and Jonah. However, what really grabbed my attention was St. Francis of Assisi and how this man, who lived in the 12th century, was so ecologically minded. He was so ahead of his time and makes all that he preached, suddenly, fresh and new.
