Review by: MandyApgar
A history of indigenous cuisines divided into a primary introduction, foodstuffs, preparation, customs, religion, and diet and nutrition. Sticking to the book's subject it is quite good and goes into some depth, although very little is mentioned of the Pacific Northwest peoples. Mostly in the northeast. The author is somewhat indecisive on how to refer to her subject, as "Indians," etc. and settles with using several terms alternating. She also said that North America did not exist before Columbus, which I found offensive. And after the book started getting pretty good at the end she closes it with a discussion of eating dogs and then cannibalism. No epilogue, closing statement, whatever, the book ends abruptly on cannibalism of all things.
